"Probably the most METAL place I've ever been"

2025-03-13

Here I am at Dimmuborgir. Yes, that place from which the pseudo-black metal band took their name (and split it into two words for some reason). And you can see why: It's all dark lava, mercilessly thrust up from the fiery bowels of the Earth thousands of years ago; the formations are all crooked and gnarly; they cover an immense area, and they're surrounded by volcano craters, underground caves, and foul-smelling sulphuric steam vents coming from possibly hundreds, if not thousands of miles below the planet's surface.

And see, this is a neat example of being better in retrospective writing than in real-time, which is often the case with me: Standing there in the moment, surrounded by the strange, wondrous nature itself, words fail me in expressing my astonishment at the place.

Anywoohoo, this is gonna be the last video from Iceland – at least for now. Because we loved it so much that we were talking about coming back during summer sometime, so we can also see the whales and puffins and shit.
