Dark and quiet Ionian post-sunset vibes
Yeah, you may wanna turn up your device lights and sound for this one. This time, we're chilling by the beach after sunset on a Greek island that virtually just got deserted overnight, and it's getting darker and darker due to that whole thing with the sun setting and all.
Zakynthos, as it turns out, is a wonderful little place. One of the Ionian islands, it's hella sunny and warm, even here in early November. It's not exactly cheap, and there's not a lot of cultural variety, but the cities are clean and tidy; the nature is gorgeous, and the climate is perfectly therapeutic. There's not a lot of action as soon as October ends. Day trip cancellations, for example, are more frequent, and you'll see a lot of stores, shops, restaurants, activities, etc. that are simply closed.
However, this also means you'll virtually have the place to yourself. There are no rock or metal bars, but at least this time of year, you won't be bothered by the moronic nightclub segment, either. And after having spent some days this summer in the pretty well-congested high-season bayside area in Montenegro, I'm guessing Zakynthos would also be a bit crowded for comfort up until only a few weeks before shooting this video. Our car rental guy at the airport told us they were down from 63 planes per day to 5 per day during one week – and that next week, they'd be down to 1 plane per day. Tells you a lot.
Kath and I have been talking about going island-hopping off the southern Greek mainland sometime, but that's still in the pre-drawing board stage. And if nothing else, I'd be more than happy to see some more of the Ionians. So far, my recommendations for off-season Zakynthos!
